STEPi Roadtrips
“When children fall in love with books, they will be inspired to want to learn to read. When they are inspired to want to learn to read, then they will want to read to learn. And when they are reading to learn, that is magic, and a world of opportunities and knowledge is opened.” - STEPi Book Math -
STEPi aims to ensure children are prepared, willing, and happy when they reach adulthood. We want every child to have choices when they reach maturity, so that they are equipped with the tools needed to become adults that prosper and thrive.
We do this by creating culturally relevant books and resources that are brought to life by local illustrators, designers, and printers in the regions where we operate in Africa.
Our Community Engagement Coordinators embark on roadtrips in under-resourced communities where they distribute resources like storybooks, teacher guides and postcards to host reading activities with the children, as well as workshops and training programmes with schools, teachers, community or religious leaders, and parents of the community.
By interacting with students and teachers in an engaging, personal and interactive way, getting everyone out of their comfort zones through reading activities or motivational teacher workshops, a literacy transformation can take place. One book at a time. It takes a village to raise a child, so everyone in the village is important.
STEPi strives to encourage every child or student to be curious and imaginative; to spark their creativity and to boost their self-esteem. STEPi believes that all children have a right to cultivate a love for books and reading so that they can understand the importance of their education.
“Education – whether the learning is happening in the classroom, at home, at work, on the bus, from a relationship, anywhere – is every human's right.”
- Karla Cordero
